Welcome to Spindrift.us - all about my Iain Oughtred designed, Caledonia Yawl named Spindrift.  Spindrift is an open cruising  boat - designed to be sailed and rowed, big enough to sleep aboard, small enough to slip into stream beds and tiny coves that big boats can't.  I built Spindrift from plans in 2003-4 and our maiden voyage was a weeklong  honeymoon cruise around the San Juan Islands in the Pacific Northwest.  This is the boat I dreamed of owning as a child, I've been improving her continuously over 20 years with several major projects - all documented here (see menus). Spindrift is both an appropriate name for her, and also a legacy - the cast bronze letters were a gift from my father and hung on his 'Spindrift' in the 1930 and 40s.
